Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If your DuraFlex flue liner has cracked, corroded, or separated, we stock DuraFlex-compatible replacement parts and install them throughout San Antonio, typically for $2,100 to $4,800 depending on flue height, diameter, and whether the old liner can be removed cleanly. Most replacements take one full day from setup to final inspection. The way owners usually discover the failure is a Level 2 inspection after a smoky fire, water staining near the chimney chase, or flue tile fragments showing up in the firebox. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything, and the liner we install is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

Which DuraFlex Models This Applies To
We work with DuraFlex 304 and 316 alloy liners in diameters from 4 inches up to 8 inches, which covers most masonry fireplaces, wood stoves, and gas inserts across San Antonio homes. If your liner is a DuraFlex Pro or DuraFlex 316Ti, the compatibility question comes down to two things: the inner diameter stamped on the liner wall near the top, and whether the appliance is listed for an insulated liner. Gas units almost always need the 316 alloy; wood-burning setups in San Antonio’s humidity cycle do better with 316 as well, not because of the heat but because our humid summers and occasional acidic creosote combine to eat through 304 faster than you’d expect. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with DuraFlex directly, but we install their components because we’ve seen the warranty paperwork actually get honored when a part fails early. Danny Cortes keeps a small notebook on every job and will sketch your flue condition so you can see exactly what he’s seeing before you approve any replacement.

Signs Your DuraFlex Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Water streaks or rust bleed on the exterior chase or interior walls near the chimney. A pinhole in a liner lets condensation through, and by the time you see rust, the liner has been weeping for a season or more.
- Flue tile chips or sandy grit in the firebox. The liner sits inside the old clay tile. When the clay starts spalling, it means heat and moisture are getting between the liner and the tile, and that gap is where failure spreads.
- A smoke smell that lingers after the fire is out. Small cracks open when the liner expands and burn off creosote residues you can’t see. The smell is the tell.
- Visible rippling, buckling, or a collapsed section seen from the top of the flue. We find this most often on older DuraFlex installs where the insulation wrap was skipped. San Antonio’s freeze-thaw winter mornings are hard on uninsulated liners.
- Your sweep or inspector flags “liner separation at the seams” or “corrosion at the tee.” A separated seam isn’t a repair item, it’s a replacement item, and waiting only widens the gap.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In San Antonio, a full DuraFlex-compatible flue liner replacement runs $2,100 to $4,800 installed for most residential chimneys. The range depends on flue height, the old liner’s condition, whether the crown needs resealing while we’re up there, and whether you need an insulation wrap. Every quote includes parts, labor, removal of the failed liner, cleaning of the flue before the new liner goes in, a camera check before and after, and a written cleanup plan so your floors and hearth are protected before we track anything through the house. We don’t charge for a second visit if something isn’t right. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it applies to liner work the same way it applies to sweeps.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check your liner’s top edge with a ladder if you’re comfortable on one, but anything beyond a visual look from above or below should stop there. Removing a failed DuraFlex liner means pulling it through the flue without tearing up your clay tile, and that’s a two-person job with the right winch and the right patience. If you yank a corroded liner past a snag, you can dislodge clay tile and turn a one-day liner swap into flue rebuild. If you’re in San Antonio and want an honest look before you decide, call (361) 491-3153. We’ll tell you plainly if the liner can wait or if it can’t, and the estimate is free.

FAQs
A properly insulated DuraFlex 316 liner lasts 15 to 25 years in our climate, but 304 alloy without insulation often fails in 8 to 12 years because San Antonio’s humidity and freeze-thaw mornings accelerate corrosion. If your home is near the Pearl district or Alamo Heights where older chimneys have minimal crown coverage, expect the shorter end. Call (361) 491-3153 and we’ll camera-check yours and give you a straight answer on remaining life.
Small pinholes at the top can sometimes be patched, but seam separation, buckling, or corrosion more than a few inches long means replacement is the only safe fix. A patched liner that splits again is a carbon monoxide pathway you won’t see until it’s an emergency, so we’ll only patch what we’d be comfortable putting in our own flue. Call (361) 491-3153 for an honest assessment, and we’ll show you the camera footage either way.
Most DuraFlex flue liner replacements in San Antonio take one full day from setup to final camera check. If the old liner is heavily degraded or the crown needs resealing, plan for a second half day, and we’ll tell you which it’ll be before we start. The written price you get before work begins includes any second-day labor if it’s needed.
We keep 4-inch, 5-inch, 6-inch, and 7-inch 316 alloy DuraFlex-compatible liners and tees on the truck, and we also stock HeatShield and Gelco components for hybrid repairs when a full liner isn’t needed. If you have a 8-inch or an uncommon oval flue, we’ll order it and usually have it installed within the week. Call (361) 491-3153 and we’ll confirm what fits your setup before you book.
