DuraFlex Chimney Inspection in San Antonio: What to Know First
We inspect DuraFlex chimney liners in San Antonio as an independent DuraFlex service provider, typically completing a Level 2 camera inspection within the same week you call. Most DuraFlex inspections run between $189 and $349 depending on the level of inspection and what we find, and you’ll get a written price before any work begins. If you own a DuraFlex liner and want to know whether it’s still doing its job, call (361) 491-3153 and we’ll schedule a time that works for your family.

This page is for San Antonio homeowners who have a DuraFlex liner installed, whether it came with the house or went in during a past reline. It’s also for homeowners who aren’t sure what type of liner they have but know the previous owner mentioned DuraFlex. We’ll confirm what you have, inspect it properly, and tell you plainly what needs attention and what can wait.
How DuraFlex Products Fail (and How We Fix Them)
DuraFlex liners aren’t immune to wear. Here’s what we see in San Antonio homes, specifically on DuraFlex aluminum and stainless systems:
- DuraFlex 316Ti stainless liners and interior pitting. In gas fireplace systems, moisture from condensation settles at the bottom 2 – 3 feet of the liner where it meets the appliance collar. Over years, this pitting can go unnoticed until a camera inspection passes over it. Our fix: we scope the full length, identify pitted sections, and if the liner wall is compromised, we quote a section replacement rather than trying to patch over it. Patches don’t hold on a flex liner’s corrugated wall. They make it worse.
- DuraFlex aluminum liners and creosote adhesion. Aluminum liners are for gas only. If a previous owner converted a wood-burning appliance but never swapped the liner to stainless, creosote builds fast on aluminum’s tighter corrugations. It’s a safety issue we catch often in older San Antonio homes near the Pearl district where flues were modified during renovations. We don’t sweep creosote out of aluminum; we recommend the correct stainless upgrade and quote it before anyone starts work.
- DuraFlex Pro (316Ti) separation at the tee connection. This is the weak point on most flex systems and the Pro is no exception. Vibration from the appliance, thermal expansion from San Antonio’s hot-cold swings, and a poor initial install can pull the liner away from the tee. Smoke escapes into the chase instead of going up. Our Level 2 camera catches this in minutes. We reseat the connection with the proper DuraFlex connector and confirm with a smoke test. No guesswork, no “should be fine.”
- Corrugation tooth wear at the cap from San Antonio wind and rain. We see it across DuraFlex rounds: the liner crimp points at the top can wear thin where the rain cap clamps on. Hard winds off the Hill Country flex the cap back and forth until the metal fatigues at the clamp ring. We replace the top section with a new DuraFlex liner section and install a properly sized cap, checking for swallow and starling nesting while we’re up there because San Antonio springtime brings both.
- Improperly sized DuraFlex liner for the flue dimensions. Not a product failure, but an install failure we catch regularly. A too-small liner pulls hard, a too-large liner lets too much air through. Both affect draft and burn efficiency. We check the liner’s diameter against the appliance’s BTU rating and flue dimensions, and if the numbers don’t line up, we quote the correct DuraFlex size. It’s the kind of thing a visual inspection misses and a camera and spec sheet won’t.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Process
Here’s what happens when you call us for a DuraFlex inspection in San Antonio, start to finish:
- 1
Call us at (361) 491-3153. A live person answers. We ask about your fireplace type, the liner if you know it, and any symptoms: smell, draft issues, visible rust or debris. We schedule based on your calendar, not ours.
- 2
We arrive in uniform, with shoe covers and drop cloths. Before we touch anything, we lay protection down and ask you which furniture, rugs, or pet areas need extra care. The C.A.R.E. values start at the door.
- 3
We confirm the liner brand and type. Danny Cortes and our techs will show you the markings, the liner wall material, and what the setup tells us about how it was installed. If you’re not sure it’s DuraFlex, this is where we confirm it. You’ll see what we see.
- 4
We run the appropriate inspection level. A Level 1 for a simple annual check. A Level 2 camera inspection if you’ve had a change in performance, a new appliance, or you’re buying or selling a home. A Level 3 if we suspect hidden interior damage and need access to one or more sections. We don’t upgrade you just because. We explain why, in plain terms, with a written price attached.
- 5
We go over the findings in person. Danny keeps a notebook and sketches flue conditions so you can literally see what the camera saw: where the liner is thin, where the connection is loose, where the creosote sits. We recommend the minimum required to make the system safe and tell you what can wait.
- 6
We clean up, photograph the clean-up, and leave the room the way we found it. Then we send the report. Everything is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Costs in San Antonio
Most standard DuraFlex chimney inspections in San Antonio fall between $189 and $249 for a Level 1. A Level 2 camera inspection runs $249 to $349. A Level 3, which requires accessing concealed areas of the flue, starts around $500 and goes up depending on what we need to open and repair afterward. These prices include the full inspection, the camera footage where applicable, the written report, and the photo of the clean-up before we leave.
What moves the price: liner height, accessibility of the roof or chase, whether you need a real estate inspection report with timestamps, and whether we find a DuraFlex section that needs replacing. If replacement is called for, we show you the section on camera, quote the OEM DuraFlex part versus a quality aftermarket alternative when one exists, and let you decide with full information. We never push a replacement you can’t see evidence for. Call (361) 491-3153 and we’ll give you an exact price before scheduling.
Why San Antonio Homeowners Call Kindling Chimney San Antonio for DuraFlex Work
We know DuraFlex because we’ve worked on hundreds of these liners across San Antonio, from Alamo Heights ranch-style homes to two-story properties near the Pearl. Danny grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade fundamentals at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending the better part of two decades working chimneys up and down the Southwest. He’s served San Antonio families for years, and he still takes time to walk each homeowner through exactly what he found before he picks up a single brush.
When a DuraFlex liner is near the end of its life and replacement makes more sense than repair, we also work with HeatShield and Gelco systems. That means you get a real comparison, not just one brand pushed because it’s what we stock. Every inspection and repair is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise and the Cedarwell Care Promise: shoe covers and drop cloths, a written price before work begins, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. A clean flue is the quietest safety feature in your home. Let’s make sure yours is doing its job.
FAQs
No, routine inspection by a qualified chimney technician does not void a DuraFlex warranty. In fact, keeping inspection records can support a warranty claim if a manufacturing defect is found. We document everything with photos and a written report so you have the paper trail.
Many DuraFlex issues are repairable: loose tee connections, worn cap areas, or a single bad section can be addressed without replacing the entire liner. Full replacement is only recommended when the liner wall itself is compromised across multiple sections or the wrong liner was installed originally. We’ll show you the camera footage before quoting anything.
In most cases we can get a technician to your San Antonio home within the same week you call. If you’re closing on a home and need a real estate inspection, let us know when you book and we’ll prioritize getting the written report to you. Call (361) 491-3153 for current scheduling.
Yes. We inspect DuraFlex liners installed by anyone. In fact, a second set of eyes on an existing install catches things the original installer may have missed, and our inspection report is independent of whoever did the original work.
Repair costs depend entirely on what we find. A loose tee connection or cap replacement is typically in the $200 to $400 range. A full liner section replacement can run higher. You’ll get a written price before any repair work starts, and nothing gets done without your go-ahead after you see the evidence.
If your DuraFlex liner hasn’t been inspected in years, call (361) 491-3153 to schedule. We’ll give you a straight answer about what your chimney actually needs.
